The HHP became part of its own 501c3, the Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-based Acupuncturists, in spring 2023. Please bear with us as we continue updating web pages to reflect all our big administrative changes.

What is The Hospital Handbook Project (HHP)?

The HHP, a not-for-profit community program since about 2016, became part of the new 501c3, Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-based Acupuncturists, in spring 2023. This nonprofit is the go-to resource for hospital-based acupuncture work: employment practices and program standards. We are unique because we are a professional network community of hospital and healthcare system-based acupuncturist clinicians, program managers, researchers, and more.

Healthcare system-based practice is an option for licensed acupuncturists. Let's grow and improve this option for prospective and future practitioners (current students). Our nonprofit helps communicate what the best practices for this setting are. This includes hiring and credentialing LAcs, professional practice evaluation specific to LAcs, program standards, clinical metrics, and KSAs for general practice and specialty practice settings.

Working in the established healthcare system means patients can access care where they are already receiving care. This improves patient's access to our services, which include acupuncture, meditation & movement therapy (tai chi and qi gong), massage and bodywork (tuina, medical massage, cupping, gua sha, acupressure), patient education, and more (see state scope of practice and delineation of clinical privileges for details).

The HHP’s work is also useful to “champions” and change-makers in the integrative health field who are setting up programs or expanding programs in the field at their healthcare facility. Our nonprofit hosts virtual synchronous & asynchronous space for healthcare system-based acupuncturists to connect and share wisdom to help avoid the problem of working in silos or “re-inventing the wheel.”

This nonprofit, the Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-based Acupuncturists, both a networking space and a source of information for hospital and healthcare system practice acupuncturists and their hospital sponsors (advocates, program managers, admin).

Our nonprofit supports community and space to communicate with each other and thus share the collective wisdom of healthcare system-based practitioners. We encourage each other to improve our knowledge and practice standards together and help each other avoid re-inventing the wheel.

Help us keep this necessary nonprofit resource going!
