The Healthcare System-based Acupuncturist

Are you an acupuncturist working in a hospital or healthcare system-based practice?

This is the resource page for you, whether you have just received your first offer of employment in this setting or you are several years into working in this practice setting.

At the HHP, this set of resources, “Healthcare System-based LAc,” formerly the “New Hospital Employee” resource set, gets you started with what to expect in job descriptions, being an employee, the onboarding process, to participating in professional practice evaluation.

This resource set also has crosswalks for those who are leads or becoming leads and those who are program managers.

During your first year of practice in this setting, we also recommend you review the First Steps resource set. First Steps is written for students and prospective practitioners interested in practicing in this setting and it reviews minimum requirements. It has only a few crosswalks to this resource.

If you are a lead or program manager, we also recommend the new resource landing page, “Program Managers/Directors.”

Are you an acupuncturist working in a hospital or healthcare system-based practice?

It's a big world. Getting connected to other hospital and healthcare system-based practitioners in your field is essential to help you avoid repeating their mistakes, and avoid re-inventing the wheel. Being connected to your field and community also helps you grow in your professional practice.

A resource for hospital and healthcare system-based Acupuncturists

If you are an acupuncturist working in the modern U.S. healthcare system, this is the resource page for you. This resource was created for you, whether you have just received your first offer of employment in this setting or you are several years into working in this practice setting.

At the HHP, this set of resources, “Healthcare System-based LAc,” (formerly called the “New Hospital Employee” resource set), covers the following: what to expect in job descriptions, basics of being a professional healthcare employee, the onboarding process, to participating in professional practice evaluation.

Outline

Have you already accessed our First Steps resources? Options to access include:

  • The HHP's First Steps online subscription resource. This includes the booklet, workbook, and discussion space. Learn more about it here.

  • Directly download the First Steps e-book and workbook via the website here.

    • Get Your Foot in the Door of Hospital Practice: First Steps for the Acupuncturist or Integrative Health Student Interested in Hospital-based Practice (e-book)

    • First Steps Companion Workbook. This walks you through the steps recommended in the e-book with practical tools. It helps you map your journey toward hospital-based practice and provides motivation for a prospective practitioner to overcome resistance to beginning the pre-work for their goal of hospital-based practice. These guided steps soften what can otherwise be an overwhelming prospect.

Or, as of Fall 2021, you can also access the First Steps resources if you join the HHP community as a Tier 1 member. Learn more about HHP community discussion membership options at the "Join the Discussion" blog article.
