Presenting at the IM4US Conference 2022, "Speaking the Language in HRO Systems as LAcs."

Join me at the October 6-7th, 2022 IM4US virtual conference.

I will be presenting "Speaking the Language of Safety in HRO Systems as LAcs." The subtitle to reflect the theme of the conference is, “Cultural competence: Recognizing the language of safety and how it applies to those new to working in the U.S. healthcare system setting.”

This talk's aim is to help attendees who are new to working as professionals in the U.S. healthcare system to improve their cultural competency (terms, language, ideas) around "safety" and what this term means in the subculture of U.S. healthcare, especially as related to the new High-Reliability Organization (HRO) model.

While my focus is on acupuncturists, much of the content is applicable to many integrative health professionals new to working in the healthcare system or an HRO model of healthcare.

This presentation is based on some of the information we have been working on in the HHP's Safety in Practice Workgroup this past year.

Viewing the HHP’s presentation

The IM4US 2022 conference is virtual and hosted on pathable. My presentation on the HHP’s work, “Speaking the Language of Safety in HRO systems as Acupuncturists (LAcs). Cultural competence: recognizing the language of safety and how it applies to those new to working in the U.S. healthcare system setting” will be a recorded session. The recording is scheduled to be released on Friday, October 7th, 2022, at 0600 Pacific. Once released on the IM4US conference platform (pathable), you can view it as a conference attendee any time.

Connecting with Megan at the conference for Q&A

I will be attending the virtual conference from October 6th - 8th, as much as my schedule allows. So, you can connect with me synchronously on the IM4US conference platform from about 0830 - 1200 Pacific time (when my kids are both at school). Or, you can connect with me asynchronously through the conference platform any time through the conference days (10/6 -10/8). I will respond when I next login to the IM4US platform.
If you are trying to connect with me at the conference and don’t hear from me during the conference time, please just send me a message via the HHP’s website contact page. Using the HHP website contact page is the best way to reach me.

For ease of access for IM4US 2022 conference attendees, the pre-recorded session is also available on the HHP’s YouTube Channel

On our YouTube channel, it is set to go live at 0600 on Friday, Oct. 7th, 2022. This is the same time the recording should be released on the IM4US platform. If you, the attendee, have any issues with the tech loading on the IM4US platform, it is also available to view on the HHP channel for a limited time. However, to get your continuing education credit, please check in with the IM4US conference platform. Credit is only offered through IM4US.

The HHP presentation at the 2022 IM4US conference, a pre-recorded presentation. Oct. 7th, 2022.

For the IM4US conference presentation, I put together a “Safety in Practice” or “Safety in Healthcare” playlist of the videos that are available on YouTube that we reference in the presentation and other materials. However, this playlist is limited. Most of the safety resources we recommend are not available in this playlist. For the full resource recommendation list, check out the new resources (as of fall 2022) that the HHP's Safety in Practice Workgroup has been putting together. Many resources are not videos available on YouTube. Some of the longer HHP videos with community discussion are in our "Issues in Hospital-based Practice webinar series" online resource. Some more extensive resources (pdfs, discussion space, etc.) are available to our HHP community discussion platform subscribers. Some recommended resources are books (print, e-book, and audiobook), podcast episodes, and documentaries. or other content that is not available on YouTube. Learn more about the HHP's growing Safety in Practice set of resources here on our website and our Safety presentation series (Sept. 10th, Oct. 7th, and Nov. 12th, 2022.) You can donate to support the HHP's nonprofit community resource work, including this workgroup.

Are you curious about the HHP’s Safety in Practice Workgroup? Want to learn more? Maybe join the Workgroup?

The IM4US conference presentation is the 2nd public presentation from the HHP’s Safety in Practice Workgroup. Our 3rd presentation this year will be in November. The November presentation is a little different from the IM4US presentation. The November presentation will be longer (scheduled for 2 hours) and will be a presentation of the workgroup’s progress so far. This includes a discussion of the reference document we’ve been working on. The November session also includes fellow workgroup member Paul Magee as co-presenter. Also, the November session is set up as a presentation + community discussion.

What’s different about the November Safety in Practice presentation compared to the IM4US presentation?

  • It is scheduled for 2 hours. It is a live presentation.

  • Live presentation + community discussion (time for Q&A).

  • Focused on presenting the workgroup’s progress for the past 12 months. This includes review/presentation of the resource/reference document we’ve been working on.

  • Includes co-presenter Paul Magee, one of the Safety in Practice workgroup members

Are you interested in joining the HHP’s Safety in Practice Workgroup? Or providing feedback without full workgroup member responsibilities?

If you are interested, please attend one of the scheduled workgroup public presentations, so you have an idea of what we are working on. Definitely attend or watch the recording of the November presentation so you know what we’ve done in 2022 and what we need help with to continue the work.

Send Megan a message via the website contact page with your interest in joining or supporting the workgroup. Include your background (why you are interested, your experience in safety or healthcare, etc.) Join the HHP discussion platform.
