What is this special event?
Medicare, the Social Security Act & LAcs

The Hospital Handbook Project (HHP), a not-for-profit community resource project, is hosting this live session on zoom. The webinar topic(s) are “Medicare, the Social Security Act (SSA) & LAcs” with guest Dr. Kallie Byrd Guimond, OM.D, MPH, a government affairs expert in federal legislation for integrative health. This session is an episode of the HHP’s Issues in Hospital-based Practice webinar series.

Dr. Guimond will present and field some Q&A on “Medicare, SSA legislation & LAcs”. This session will NOT be recorded.

When: Wednesday, April 14th, 2021, evening
Start time: 7pm Eastern/ 6pm Central/ 5pm Mountain/ 4pm West Coast

Who Should Attend?

  • Any acupuncturist or acupuncture program manager/director who works in a health care organization that has an agreement with or legal obligation to CMS/Medicare.

  • This event is open to healthcare system acupuncturists, their program managers, and admin.

    • For the HHP, we define “healthcare system” or “hospital-based” means any work in a facility or organization that is accredited by or eligible for accreditation by The Joint Commission (TJC). TJC accredits federal and civilian health care programs and facilities in the U.S.

  • You are welcome to invite your public affairs or another system/organization/facility advocate who is interested in the topic of Medicare recognition of LAcs.

  • Please submit all queries for discussion ahead of time via the registration page.

Topics our Guest, Dr. Guimond, will present and take questions on

  1. The current status on federal legislation around Medicare, the Social Security Act (SSA), and Licensed Acupuncturists.

    • Federal legislation to include LAcs as recognized providers in the SSA, which governs what Medicare recognizes as “approved providers”

  2. Advocacy around this work

Meet Our Guest Speaker

Kallie Byrd Guimond, OM.D. MPH

Principal at Sustainable Influence
She has been a government affairs professional for 20+ years, with a focus on integrative health policy. In her work, she has overseen national conventions, Congressional briefings, and management of legislation at both the federal and state level. She has experience with direct lobbying, presentation of testimony, bill drafting, grassroots mobilization, shepherding legislation, and legislative tracking.

Sustainable Influence is an organization dedicated to leveling the policy playing field by teaching organizations and their members the most effective grassroots and grasstops techniques. It organizes and oversees federal fly-ins and state lobby days as well as provides guidance for handling state and federal regulatory policy issues.

Dr. Guimond has past experience serving as president of the Health Policy Advocacy Institute and as vice president of the Associations for National Policy Group (1999-2013) where she served as executive director of numerous associations.

Her master’s in public health from the University of Southern Mississippi has an emphasis in policy and administration. Her doctorate degree in Oriental medicine is from the Maryland University of Integrative Health. She is a former board member of the American Society of Acupuncturists (ASA).
